My first tangle of thoughts upon entering the skate park are always in this order:

I wonder if any of my friends are here.

I wonder if any rude guys are here. Ugh.

I wonder if there are any new people. (I hate meeting new people, it scares me to death!)

I wonder if todays the day I break something!
Such was the case tonight. While my arm's still adorned with the glorious blue and white checkered armband from the skate park, I lie here in my room thinking of skating. It's 3:00 AM and I'm still not sleepy, though I have to get up to skate at 8:30 AM tomorrow morning.

Today was a pretty ordinary Wednesday. I talked on the phone, worked on my skates, and finally went skating. During one of the phone calls, a guy that has his eyes set on me asks me to quit skating for him to prove something (I won't guess what) to him. I immediately hang up after he says that it's stupid for girls to skate, "just like girls in football." Well... Later in the evening, I arrived at the skate park and go through my previously mentioned check list. One question: Do all Skater Girls get this hastle??!! I saw some friends, offering their smiles and waves. I saw a few of the people that I dread talking to (because of their attitudes towards girls), and smiled at them anyway. I saw a ton of new faces. I thought to myself, "Oh NO! Not only will I need to talk to them, I can tell that some have never seen a girl skater! That means I might have to skate to impress tonight! Ugh!".

Well, it turns out I calmed down after a while of chatting with them and then I focused on skating for me. Sometimes I wonder if the reason why girls choose not to skate is because of the jerks- the guys who insult them and laugh at them when they fall or even attempt a new trick.

I know a lot of guys are like that, but for all they guys like those who choose to take the fun out of skating and in turn make it torture for those skating with them, there are just as man nice guys who'll be there to help you up with you fall or support and encourage you when you try. And not just because you are a girl!

wow this is almost to true
I totally agree.

My best friend is a guy, and he's the one teaching me how to skate. He's learning how to skate aggressive after 14 years of speed skating. I'm learning to skate from scratch and then get aggressive, so I'm learning 2 styles in one!

The guys that skate here are for the most part cool with me..it's the NON-SKATERS that are the jerks! Like to look at people fall just so they can poke fun...I dare THEM to try the same thing! Watch them run!

Don't let them slow ya roll, sista! I learnt that the HARD way! DO what you do 'cause of you! 'Cause you love it and want to do it, regardless! I have, and that has really set me free in terms or learning! :D
...Words of wisdom...
i know whats you mean, although i dont do it, cause i love watching chicks blade, it make me feel better, not in a bad way lol, it makes me feel like there is at least one chick game enough to stand and roll in a so called male dominated sport, and yes, i know that's a lie, cause i know more girls that skate then guys....
but when there and boarders and riders around, they tend to go for the girl over the guys, not sure why but thats how it goes. i guess the only way to fix this is either, 1. just dont listen to them and show them up, or 2. just bash the shit out of them lol, i bet you that if you do that, they will never say another word about female bladers....and if you cant, just get someone who can....
catch
I wouldn't even pay attention what people say. Just do whatever the hell you want to do in life. Or you can always get real good and embarrass the assholes. I used to skate with a girl Jana Ivey who was on the X games in 97.. She was a better skater than all of us guys.
You need to relax about the whole girl thing and just skate. Most rollerbladers are juiced when they meet other rollerbladers, no matter what their sex is. You should never feel the need to "skate to impress," unless youre getting paid for it, of course. Who cares what people think of you? Youre a rollerblader, we're hated on from the start, and all the idiots that choose to project their insecurities on other people shouldn't even be acknowledged . Once you put on a pair of skates and decide to do what we do, you are no longer male or female, youre just a mutant on eight wheels... That's just my opinion on the "just because I'm a girl" argument. The skill level of female rollerbladers has come up a lot since the 1990's, back when Fabiola was the only female skater that wasn't a total embarassment to the sport.
heres my opinion, since i started skating my dream girl has been a cool one who skates whether on blades or a board doesnt matter much.. i guess it just proves theyre tougher than other girls, with the mental abuse from stupid people and physical abuse from themselves.

keep skating and get your female friends to skate... its hot
im starting up agresive skating anna the nly thing im worried about realy is the boys who think they all no best saying that i should give up i hope it dont happen but it still annoying thinking of it . i dont care realy about braking my wrist and stuff because ive loved skating since i was 7. is there any thing to worrie about?
girls rollerblading is hot
i would never talk down to them
its really one of the most stupidest things evr to do in life

I think a girl who likes rolling and can actually do the tricks is so sexy.

Like in Aggressive Inline (the videogame) Chrissy and Bombshell even though they're fake. Lol

That kind of chick that looks super sexy, nice body and isn't scared to show it all off at the skatepark and can back up her badass ways with hittin' up grinds and tricks over ramps and pipes.

I would skate up to you drop on my knees in the middle of the skatepark and propose to you right then and there, and when you fall I'll always encourage you to keep tryin and I'll kiss your wounds. lol. haha jk. keep it up I think thats cool that you skate...
I kinda get this too.
I mean, the guys don't hate on me, but they laugh ten times louder when it's ME that falls...
It seems like the older guys really respect it though.
