You know when you get to a point where you think "What am I ACTUALLY doing with my life?" and then you go and find something you feel like you really want to throw yourself into.
Well I'm there...only without the "find something" bit.
I'm a 17 year old girl from the UK who used to do some pretty basic skating when I was about 12 but I lost my confidence to do anything on small wheels after doing some damage to my ankle while I was ice-skating.
Well now I've figured that I fancy picking things up again, build up my confidence and eventually move onto aggressive skating.
My only problem is that my boyfriend does a bit of skating, and a couple of his mates skateboard and BMX, and since my confidence already sucks I'm worried that they're gonna really take the piss - even if they're kidding it's still gonna hurt right?
I'm not saying that him or his mates are jerks - they're really nice guys, but I think they just don't understand that people aren't instantly good. That and I feel that they, and other people, will see that I'm a girl and give me no chances.
So now I have no idea what to do. I really want to give skating another go; but not only does my confidence such, but I can honestly say my knowledge on skate brands is really really poor.
I also don't know what way I can go about building myself up to being relatively good
I posted this discussion cause I could really do with some help.

If its confidence you want this site is absolutely perfect for you. I love it so much everyone is so helpfull. Just keep adding discussions, blogs, and comment peoples page mostly everyone with do as much as they can to help you. But if its skating advice that you want im not the best person for that, ive only been going for about 2 months now.

GOOD LUCK
=] thanks, any advice I can get on anything in my discussion is really helpful
What skates do you use? Just out of curiosity.
it doesnt matter if your a girl or a guy youll get teased for not being instantly good some do it to joke others to be asses but the best thing to do is use it for motovation dont let someone telling you that you cant do it keep you from trien as far as skate brands for a beginer its not goin to matter if you buy a $100 pair of skates or a $300 pair. Rollerblade USd and razors alll make cheapper skates that are of good quality so i say find a pair that will work for you and go give it a shot whether your good or not it dont matter as long as your out enjoying wat your doin if you need help with anything just ask there alot of seasoned skaters with great advice on here
being a girl skater should give u all the confidence u need.
I really think you should just rollerblade anyway
if you really like it you will be where you want with it as long as you want an wokr at it
you might get hurt
i mean i have no confidence at all but i realize its what i want and its worth it
i do get hurt but not often because im carefull
you should just take your time dont try to do anything your not sure of

cheers
I've been sk8ing for almost a yr this month, and its true, being a girl can make it tougher considering it is mostly an all male sport, but rollerbladers don't discriminate. Well, the ones I've met anyway. I sk8 with like 20 guys and 2 girls lol. Everyone is super helpful and was willing to give me great advice and tips on how to become better and overcome my fear of falling. So if u ever need confidence or that boost, this site and the ppl on here will give it to u. No one discriminates.
Also open up to your boyfriend, im sure he will totaly suport you afterwards, and maybe even punch someone if they tease you or smtn. hehehe :P
get yourself a nice low play rail and some time to practice,i skated curbs for about 2 years back in the stone age when i started,it will come if you stick at it.
Mostly aaha
Heyyy, I don't know if anyone would see this, but thanks to everyone for your help - it's awesome =D
try to aviod razors, the have a big shock pad in the heel that sets your heel higher than normal, then when you want to switch to better skates you haft to relearn all your tricks
Ok to start, look around pretty well any skate is good for beginner, just i'd recomend staying away from razors.

umm just talk to your boyfriend about it,,,he should support and protect you,.,.,.,.but if when you go to skate with them they just trash the hell outta you confidence then just dont skate with them, practice by yourself untill you got the basics, then go back and earn some respect
