Street was just what there was to do with skates on, when I first started skating. I was on a skateboard first, so, I knew about boxes and rails from watching bootleg videos. We made them ourselves. I'm 36now, so, that was a couple of decades ago.

I didn't get on my first ramp until I was 25. I loved it! I had already built my endurace from long distance skating. When I got on the ramp I would be there for 10-15 minutes at a time. My skateboarding friends couldn't believe that I could run for that long. My friend had a 6 ft ramp at his dad's. It was 16 feet wife and about 24 feet long. His dad would let me come over when noone was home to work out.
I saw Arlo rollerblading on Mtv back in the early-mid nineties and thought it was cool, and after all these years, I still rollerblade.
A Japanese Show Call "Air Gear".
seen my buddy rippin up a huge ledge when i was younger and i was mesmerised...
going to scrap back in the early 90's and seeing some dudes doing frontsides in the vert and i went home and got some blades and started grinding a pvc rail i made. i also know alot of people who got started watching ASA and NISS comps on nbc saturday mornings back in the day. i miss those days, rolling needs to start televising more stuff. if you go on on-demand there are a ton of skateboard vids but not one rolling vid. wtf?
i bought some skates off craigslist just to work out in.i useually run alot and wanted a new workout.
i buy these skates and the dude tells me these are "aggressive skates" when i ask him "where the breaks are?" and that these dont have stoppers and or breaks.haha.i watch some you tube shit to see how to actually stop when your going to fast and i started seeing all these aggro vids that tripped me out.i didnt even known this sport existed.i knew all about skateboarding but not blading.i like it because its different then the norm.been doing it for like 1 month now and can grind, and hop table tops and benches and shit.im stoked.
I got skates because of peer pressure... we had a crew of punk kids that used to skate the streets up... while out older friends skateboarded. I remember the NISS competitions and ASA... and early aggressive videos with Chris Edwards... i don't remember the name of it, but it featured the Violent Femmes song, Blister in the Sun. It was made around 95 or 96 where the only grinds were frontsides and souls. I started skating in 95 with Bauer hockey skates and jury-rigged grindplates on them... I put my skates on for the first time in 5 or 6 years.. it's amazing the progress in switch up grinds ... I can't believe the stuff I see from Montre Livingston.. that guy has style. He's really on another level.
