Its sad that they did but the coverage of it has sucked for the past 5 years anyway. I remember when inline vert was a closing day event along with bmx dirt and skateboard best trick. Last year i think i saw 5 whole minutes of coverage and that was just a highlights reel.
They took street skating out after the 2003 X-Games because the TV ratings were too low for our sport. Then they eliminated Vert inline after the 2005 X-games. ESPN looks at 3 things - TV ratings, participation rates (# of kids inlining), and star power. Skateboarding has the highest participation rate, gets high TV ratings and everyone has heard of Tony Hawk and Shaun White. Back in 2003, our top skater was Jaren Grob, but no one outside inline ever heard of him. Participation was declining. So they dropped it. We gotta get more kids inline skating and build the sport back up. And then get our best skaters more publicity
I know a lot about this because I started a Petition to put Inline back in the X-Games and we presented it to ESPN. They told me those were the three things they look at when they decide which sports to drop and add. So we just have to start getting more kids to convert to inline. If every rollerblader can just get one kid to switch, then the sport doubles.
Agreed. I've been doing my best to get people into inline skating. My brother's girlfriend used to skateboard and now we've almost got her in some inline skates.
I also bought a pair of old Salomon ST-80s for my 10yr old brother's 11th birthday (but he doesn't get to roll until July 26th...).
There's a rumor going around that it's coming back to this years X-games. Maybe you did do something, shook it up a little bit. We should all thank you for that....THANKS SHAWN :-)
Spread the word around your local skate parks, schools, friends are the best because they will back ya up and help you get the word out there thats what I'm trying to achieve to get more aggressive skaters and help the sport gain some more respect than it has had in the past few years, people just don't understand how landing a sweet grind or trick in aggressive skating is just as hard or even harder than skate boarding.
Yeah but at my school ive tried to get my mates into blading and they all say its gay apart from 1 who cant do it because he has a problem on his feet where he gets blisters from most shoes and has to where this thing on the inside of his shoe else he would do it =(
they just dont see how good it is they think or it as the 80s roller blading yet they are all willing to go ice skating=S
